Constitutional Hill’s heritage resources have fallen prey to neglect and decay prompting a sensitive design response. Evidence of the many-layered histories of the site needed to be preserved whilst restoring damaged elements in accordance with strict conservation principles. Etched into the doors, walls and windows, a plethora of layered histories informed the restoration methodology. Once such story was told through the installation of a steel framed structure which took the form of the missing Joe-Slovo toilet in the Old Fort courtyard.
