The Ethiopian Quarter in downtown Johannesburg is an vibrant and chaotic space of trade and activity. The intensity generated creates incredibly authentic and peculiar spatial arrangements, which become design informants for the 10-storey building. An internal street is created connected to the existing city streets supported by courtyards and small shops. A second ground plane is created to allow for more trading and open space for functions with natural light and ventilation. Floor plates are designed for flexibility whilst being centered on coffee ceremonies.
