The Windybrow Theatre forms the central part of a larger group of cultural and civic amenities in the very dense inner city neighbourhood of Hillbrow. Through the design of a large open public courtyard and pedestrian linkages, the theatre reaffirms its civic role that has been compromised through changes since the 1990’s. Routes connect various functions and open spaces to each other as well as connecting into the adjacent neighbourhood. Spaces where designed in a manner that allowed facilities to share common space but to also work independently when needed.
