JAG SNAGS

JOUBERT PARK, JOHANNESBURG

The Johannesburg Art Gallery is a colonial building that is currently at great odds with its urban setting 100 years after it was built. It also suffers from significant physical decay. Invited by conceptual artist Stephen Hobbs to speculate and explore alternative for its future, the drawings sought to celebrate the awkward relationship the building has to its place as well as to treat the cracks and leaks as installations themselves. The architectural devices included large water wheels, dripping ponds, ducts and rain catchers.
