As a consequence of our new democracy and economic reality Johannesburg’s streets represent a chaotic mix of both regulation and desperation. In an attempt to draw attention the awkward power relationships that exist and that are possible, the project gets the destitute at traffic intersections to rearrange themselves to law-enforcement agents to simultaneously provide a service and earn a livelihood. The experiment looks to manipulate existing socio-spatial logics to find more sustainable means of distributing services and resources.
