The University of Free State has been plagued with social tensions along racial lines frustrating efforts around much needed transformation. The project documents the operations of key social spaces on the University grounds to ascertain the role of space in informing transformation. The sites were investigated based on user type, activity and elements that contributed to the workings of the spaces. The ethnographic study revealed the power of space to shape social behavior to meet particular ends.
