WINDYBROW RESTORATION
HILLBROW, JOHANNESBURG
Heritage Consultant: HMJ Prins Architect
2011
Originally built in 1896 by Randlord Theodore Reunert, the majestic house has been converted to accommodate the adjacent Windybrow Theatre’s administration and support. Home to grass roots theatre productions, the iconic structures have fallen prey to decay and neglect. The project involves restoration of heritage elements including the facades, ornate timberwork, windows, plasterwork and interior details. Guided by stringent conservation principles, the project sought to reconfigure internal spaces based on the current user needs, heritage integrity and energy efficiency.
