MABONENG CONTAINERS

MABONENG, JOHANNESBURG

In an attempt to create vibrant streets, where the developer has limited influence on property, containers have been used to create active edges and programming. At the intersection of a rapidly changing inner-city neighbourhood, three containers are placed at a corner to activate the street edge. The space is used as a showcase for events and shops in the neighbourhood and comprises a corner portico, street exhibition space and first floor terrace. When in use, the spaces become extension of the sidewalk whereby passers by can walk through the container spaces.  In an attempt to create vibrant streets, where the developer has limited influence on property, containers have been used to create active edges and programming.
