UrbanWorks Architecture and Urbanism is an inter-disciplinary design studio rooted in Johannesburg, South Africa. The studio engages critically with the stubborn yet inspiring reality of South African cities through four key pillars of Urbanism, Architecture, Research & Teaching and Interventions.
The spaces of this sprawling African city demand design solutions that are sensitive to a complex and divisive history as well as the imperatives of modernity. Consequentially, our projects evolve towards implementation through a process of critical observation and responsive engagement. Absent of any pre-determined scale or aesthetic these projects demonstrate the value of looking deeply and acting with bold sensitivity.
