Morkel House is an existing building in New Doornfonetin, comprising of a concrete structure with brick infill. It is owned by Keithsons Property Holdings and occupied by creative businesses, clothing manufacturers and artist studios. The renovation to lobby of Morkel House intended to represent and emphasize the activity happening inside the building. The yellow floor of the lobby that flows onto the sidewalk extends the lobby externally and introduces the building to the street with custom concrete benches to provide the building users and pedestrians with shaded seating. The chevron embodies the creative construction and the perforated blacks steel indicates the current and historical industrial nature of activity whilst simultaneously protecting the softer ply wall panels beneath.
